Whether you fall, injure your wrist from overuse while playing tennis or have a health condition, you can trust a chiropractor like one from NuView Health Medical, serving areas around Rockefeller including Midtown and the rest of the 10036, will assist. Our treatments for wrist and hand pain are noninvasive. The goal of our treatments is to reduce your need for pain medications and possible surgery.
Some causes of hand or wrist pain include bursitis, an irritated nerve, carpal tunnel, arthritis, De Quervain, dislocation, overuse injury, sprains and strains. Bursitis is a condition that affects the small fluid-filled sacs called bursae. Bursae act as cushions in between the muscles, tendons, joints and bones, and they can become inflamed. An irritated nerve occurs when something places pressure on a nerve and irritates it.
Carpal tunnel is a condition that affects the hand and wrist. Because the nerve in the carpal tunnel becomes compressed, it causes pain, numbness and tingling in your thumb, middle, index and ring finger. Arthritis is a condition that affects the joints. It causes pain, swelling and stiffness. De Quervain affects the tendons in your thumb, specifically, on the thumb side of your wrist. It causes pain on one side of your wrist, and this pain can worsen when you’re gardening, texting or golfing.
You might dislocate a finger or bone in your wrist. It’s possible you’ll experience pain in your wrist as a result of overuse. You could sprain your wrist, which is an injury to the ligament. On the other hand, you could strain your wrist, which occurs to a muscle or tendon. Both of these conditions will cause pain, swelling and bruising. You’ll notice you have a decreased range of motion and possibly numbness and tingling.
At our center, our chiropractors, will perform imaging to view the inside of your hand and/or wrist to determine the underlying cause of the problem. We may prescribe a brace for you to use throughout the day or while you sleep to support the injured area. The chiropractor may manually move the bones in the fingers or wrist to realign them. Our chiropractor will guide you through exercises that are safe for your injury and slowly work the muscles and tendons. The exercises will help to reduce your pain while increasing your range of motion. Our chiropractor may prescribe hot and cold therapy to reduce pain and inflammation in the region.
